A perfect corner of England
City or Sea - Plymouth and the South Devon area
Placing a major yacht contract with DEVONPORT could mean that for a period of time representatives and project staff will need to base themselves near to our yard, whilst work is underway - that's no bad thing!
The South Hams countryside surrounding DEVONPORT offers some of the most varied and attractive scenery in the whole of the south. For city dwellers, Plymouth's re-development plan is now well underway.
Here we showcase two contrasting ideas for client accommodation.
Royal William Yard, Plymouth
Located a mere five minutes by car or a fifteen minute walk away from DEVONPORT, the 19th century Grade 1 Royal William Yard development comprises homes, businesses and leisure facilities, situated on an 18 acre peninsula.
Conceived by Samuel Pepys and designed by eminent architect, Sir John Rennie, it was built as a naval victualling yard between 1824 and 1834. Although it was the ending of the Navy's daily tot of rum in 1970 that sounded the Yard's death knell, until closure in 1993.
Developers, Urban Splash, have now converted two buildings, Brewhouse and Clarence, to create 133 characterful and contemporary apartments and three commercial spaces, due for completion later this year.
Work is about to start on the fourth building, Mills Bakery. www.urbansplash.co.uk
Salcombe
Lying approximately 20 miles to the east of Plymouth and situated on the coast beside a landlocked inlet, Salcombe and its environment has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Local Nature Reserve and is a haven of peace, tranquillity and charm.
Once a flourishing trading port, now Salcombe's main income is tourism and water based activities.
If you are keen on walking, sandy beaches and open spaces then living in Salcombe, or one of many similar village locations nearby, will keep you fully satisfied. The area is also renowned for its particularly mild climate. www.salcombeinformation.co.uk
